Quick Start — Registering for Invisible Witness

Welcome. This guide walks you through creating your account and getting gate access. It takes about 5 minutes, plus admin approval time.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your registration code — a short code given to you by the gate owner, property manager, or your organization. You cannot register without it. If you don’t have one, contact whoever arranged your access.
  • Your phone, able to receive an SMS text message. We send a 6-digit code to confirm the number.
  • Your license plate (optional but recommended if you’ll be driving through the gate).

Step 1 — Install and open the app

Install Invisible Witness from the App Store or Google Play, then open it.

On first launch you’ll land on the Register screen. If you already have an account, tap Sign in near the top instead.

Step 2 — Personal Information

FieldNotes
First Name / Last NameYour real name — an administrator uses this to approve you.
EmailYour sign-in username. Use an address you check.
PasswordMinimum 8 characters.
Confirm PasswordMust match exactly.

Step 3 — Verify your phone number

  1. Enter your 10-digit phone number. It formats itself as you type: (250) 555-1234.
  2. Tap Verify. A 6-digit code is texted to that number.
  3. A Verification Code field appears — type the 6 digits from the SMS.
Important: finish your registration in the same sitting. If you close the app after tapping Verify, tap Verify again to get a fresh code before submitting.

If the code doesn’t arrive within a minute, double-check the number and tap Verify again.

Step 4 — Registration code

Type the code from the gate owner. The app looks it up automatically a moment after you stop typing:

  • Green check + organization name — the code is good, and you’re now linked to that organization.
  • Red X, “Registration code not found” — check for typos. Codes are not case-sensitive; the app capitalizes them for you. Still failing? Confirm the code with whoever issued it.

Step 5 — Additional Information

Only Access Reason is required here — but the more you fill in, the faster approval usually goes.

  • License Plate (optional) — letters and numbers only, no spaces or dashes, e.g. ABC1234. Pre-authorizes your vehicle.
  • Existing Card / Fob (optional) — if you were already issued a physical fob, enter its ID (e.g. IW0000000). Leave blank if you don’t have one.
  • Access Reason (required) — be specific. “Resident at Unit 4B” or “Contracted maintenance technician” gets approved faster than “access”.
  • Requested Gates (optional) — comma-separated. Leave blank if unsure; an administrator will assign the right gates.
  • Affiliated Organization (optional) — your company or employer. Enter “Individual” if none.
Tap the icon beside any field for on-screen help.

Step 6 — Agreements

Tick the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy boxes. Tap either link to read the full text first.

Some organizations add their own terms — if so, a third checkbox appears with that organization’s name. All shown checkboxes must be ticked.

Step 7 — Submit

Tap Submit.

On success you’ll see: “Registration submitted. This application will indicate access status once your application is processed.”

Your registration now goes to an administrator for approval. If your details match a user the gate owner was already expecting, approval can be quick.

While you wait, the Profile tab shows a yellow “Registration under review” banner. Pull down on that screen to re-check at any time.

Step 8 — When you’re approved

You’ll get a push notification (“Registration Approved”). Allow notifications when the app asks, so you don’t miss it.

Tap the notification, or just switch back to the app — it re-checks your access level every time you return to it, and any newly granted tabs appear then.

If you had the app open on screen the whole time, open the Profile tab and pull down to refresh.

Step 9 — Opening a gate

  1. Allow Bluetooth when the app asks. On iPhone, also allow Location — iOS requires it to scan for Bluetooth devices. We don’t collect or store your location.
  2. Open the Gate Control tab and drive or walk up to the gate.
  3. Nearby gates appear in the list. Tap yours, and the app connects, authenticates, and opens it.

“No gates found” simply means you’re not close enough to gate hardware yet. Gates are only visible within Bluetooth range.

Troubleshooting

ProblemTry this
